Toto’s Washlet toilet seat REALLY is a great alternative to a true bidet. Many of my clients have enjoyed the benefits of a bidet during their travels abroad and have asked me how to fit this luxury into their bathroom remodels. I have seen MANY cheap imitations on the market, but Toto has finally come up with a retrofit product that gets my stamp of approval. A standard bidet is a separate plumbing fixture who’s function is to aid in personal hygiene. The Toto Washlet toilet seat actually improves on the old style bidet by adding several features to your standard toilet bowl such as a heated seat and oscillating warm water spray that is adjustable in both temperature and flow. Keep in mind you will need an outlet close by to power your Washlet (the manufacturer also recommends a surge protector.) But much more than that there are times when a laminate surface may not only extend the budget, but be a better fit than a quartz or natural stone countertop. Recently, I helped design a chiropractic office and the staff requested a warmer, more forgiving surface for the desktops areas - a Formica laminate fit the bill perfectly! Formica and other laminate manufacturers have stepped up their game AND their product offerings. Kitchens and bathrooms are not the only areas where laminates can fit the bill – most recently monolith wall panels have become the trend for bringing the look of texture surfaces to an entire wall area. And I will always suggest ways to improve the lighting on any interior design project. But as much as I love good lighting I also know the side effects of LED lighting on our circadian rhythm. Of course the major effects come from backlighting on Smart Phones, Tablets, Computer Screens and TV – but it can also come from LED lighting as a whole. Since I spend so much time on the computer, writing, especially in the evening, this really throws my sleep cycle into a downward spiral. As a professional interior designer I had always helped my clients hire experienced contractors for the time-consuming task of refinishing old wood furniture and architectural trimwork. But when faced with my own home renovation and the fact that our budget might be better used elsewhere I decided I would tackle this very large project. NO JOKE – over 2000 linear feet of window and door trim alone!!! I had never refinished anything myself before this experience – so I did my homework! I started with the battery operated model a couple years back in my own kitchen and immediately fell in love with the convenience of a sleek, clean soap dispenser that doesn’t get all gunked up and is a one-handed operation! BATHROOM We’ve all experienced the pitfalls of the decorative soap dispensers on top of our beautiful vanities. In the past there seemed to be functional pump issues no matter how expensive the dispenser. Plus it seemed like the liquid hand soap I used would inevitably deteriorate the “metal” parts. The final straw was when I purchased not one, but two matching soap dispensers for a master bath only to find one keep breaking. So it was then that I had a little epiphany while doing dishes one day, enjoying my Simple Human Sensor Pump – carelessly dispensing just the right amount of liquid soap. BUT I have to admit, some of the top brand paint color apps and online programs can be awkward to use. And in my busy day, I don’t have time for awkward! So when I saw an ad for Home Depot’s FIND YOUR PERFECT COLOR App, I just had to give it a try! Simply take a photo, or select a photo from your camera roll. Then tap on the area of the picture that you want to color match and voila – you have 3 options. Now of course, Home Depot is going to give you options from their in-store brands – but it’s a great SIMPLE way to start the color selection process. Nowadays any of the paint suppliers can color match to another brand – so if you choose to upgrade to a different paint manufacturer (not only for quality, but finish availability) you have a color to start with. I started using Norwex products about 3 years ago – and although I don’t use their entire product line, a few of their cleaning products have become a mainstay in my own home. I was so impressed with their ease of use that I just had to spread the word – and perhaps for selfish reasons. The selfish reason – because the Enviro Cloth uses ONLY WATER to clean even the toughest kitchen grime! So when a client asks me “how do I clean my beautiful new kitchen countertops AND cabinets?” I LOVE that I can suggest a way for them to clean – and I mean REALLY CLEAN – a product that I have sold them with something that has no harsh chemicals and is all-natural. Here’s how it works; there are microfibers embedded into the Norwex Enviro cloth (and many of their other cloths). These are not just your typical microfibers – but heavy duty ones that capture dirt and grime AND don’t release it until you wash the cloths in the Norwex detergent. The crucial element is that you USE ONLY WATER – no other cleaning products – so that you don’t mess with the system. Some of these commercial designs are HUGE – and can look out of place over a more standard sized residential sink. PLUS a larger scale faucet can interfere with window sills, etc. Recently I came across a wonderful BRIZO model at the Architectural Digest Home Show that caught my eye over the hundreds of options on display. The BRIZO ARTESSO faucet is a smart combination of commercial styling that clients love BUT a better scale and ease of use. There is nothing clunky or over-sized about this beautiful design! My client LOVED it! And we even got comments from my quartz fabricator during install – clearly this design is turning heads! I started using Norwex products about 3 years ago – and although I don’t use their entire product line, a few of their cleaning products have become a mainstay in my own home. I was so impressed with their ease of use that I just had to spread the word – and perhaps for selfish reasons. The selfish reason – because the Enviro Cloth uses ONLY WATER to clean even the toughest kitchen grime! So when a client asks me “how do I clean my beautiful new kitchen countertops AND cabinets?” I LOVE that I can suggest a way for them to clean – and I mean REALLY CLEAN – a product that I have sold them with something that has no harsh chemicals and is all-natural. Here’s how it works; there are microfibers embedded into the Norwex Enviro cloth (and many of their other cloths). These are not just your typical microfibers – but heavy duty ones that capture dirt and grime AND don’t release it until you wash the cloths in the Norwex detergent. The crucial element is that you USE ONLY WATER – no other cleaning products – so that you don’t mess with the system. Yes, you need to wash the cloths in a separate load, but I also use the Norwex detergent for my lighter laundry loads, so its not a problem. Too good to be true? I thought so too, but I can tell you that my countertops and cabinets stay clean, grease-free and best of all I am not harming the finishes with chemicals I can’t even pronounce. One of my go-to products is a cost-effective, multi-tasker like myself! Speakman might not be a brand name that everyone knows – but if you travel a lot you probably have been using their shower heads for years, as they are a mainstay of the hotel industry. Purchasing shower plumbing can be a nightmare with all the different parts and accessories that typically have to be ordered separately. That’s why I LOVE the Speakman Neo Hand Shower that includes a 24” ADA grab bar and a 60” metal hose for hand shower adjustability – AND at a reasonable price for a quality plumbing fixture.
