RENEWING the PASSION - AD Design Show
So just how does a creative soul stay inspired?
Staying on top of the latest design trends is part of my job as a professional interior designer, but it’s often hard to fit trips to showrooms into my busy schedule. So when I get the opportunity to attend a trade show that encompasses multiple brands within a few hours of home I jump at the chance. So this spring I attended the Architectural Digest Design Show in New York City.
The AD Design Show is open to the public as well as to trade professionals and gives thousands of people the opportunity to check out the newest developments emerging from hundreds of companies - large and small. It seems that almost every industry that has anything to do with the home - appliances, tile, lighting, furniture, flooring – you name it – it’s here. AND what’s even better is that I can do this all in one day!
The manufacturers aren’t the only ones at the show who want to show off their style. It’s also a great place to people-watch, too! Here are just a few of my favorite finds!
EM Soberon’s Volkano Quarry, an acrylic and wood end table collection was definitely a showstopper for me! Really cool combination of natural wood slab cuts and cast acrylic that create a dynamic waterfall-edged end table.
I fell in love with the latest additions to the Paris Ceramics line – my favorite was an innovative natural stone tile with a semi-circular design pattern that offers a myriad of combinations – each connection creates a new pathway. I also like this for the ability to add subtle drama that won’t overpower a room.
Hubbardton Forge Lighting is already one of my favorite lighting manufacturers. This company keeps stepping up their designs with simple creative solutions that really shine – pun definitely intended!
One of the many luxury appliance brands at the show is Gaggenau Appliances , A UK based company. They’ve always stood for quality and innovation. Their creative demonstration of how their appliances can accept ANY type cabinetry panels was so retro, fun and inspiring!
JM Lifestyles are decorative concrete artisans who created a concrete bathtub display. Their trademarked Woodform Concrete method is amazing in its’ lifelike concrete fabrication that so closely resembles real wood – it would fool even a lumberjack! This company is located in NJ – so close to home that I have had a chance to work with them before. But they have definitely stepped it up a notch with this wood-look method – what a statement piece!
KOKET is another brand that’s new to me – a luxury market favorite, this line is focused on the feminine side with gold accents galore and some really fun details like the delicate hand that is an integral part of one of their arm chairs.
Finally, I love the section of the show that features smaller vendors from near and far – this time I found another great resource for custom furniture right in my own back yard of Bucks County PA – WREN & COOPER. LOVED this URSA CHAIR! Can I take this home?
